Airwave Networks began with the implementation of four wireless sites in 2001.  Over our fifteen year history, Airwave Networks has demonstrated outstanding subscriber growth year after year.  As of June 2016, Airwave Networks is contracted to serve over 110,000 resident housing beds in 36 states and Canada.  A privately held corporation, Airwave Networks is solely employee owned and based in Annapolis Maryland.

The Airwave Networks' Management Team has over 35 years experience managing communication networks and over 20 years experience in customizing complex telecommunications packages to meet the specific needs of the Multi-dwelling housing environment. 

The Airwave Networks' Technical Staff consists of engineers experienced in RF analysis, networking, Web applications, and software engineering. Their expertise allows us to apply a broad suite of tools and techniques to solutions for nearly any network environment.

Our student housing experience includes an eight year history of managing telecommunications services for one of the largest companies in the student housing market. Building on this accomplishment, Airwave Networks developed many improved reporting policies, operational procedures, and other innovations. It is this unique combination of engineering talent - coupled with our MDU experience - that has allowed Airwave Networks to become one of the dominant leaders in providing high speed Internet and CATV to this unique market.

William Rinard - CEO

With a number of technology savvy engineers, Bill Rinard founded Airwave Networks in 2001. He has guided the company from a start-up with a focus on two driving principals for the student housing telecommunication market. The two principals are best in class service and the other is to embrace new technologies in order to improve operating efficiencies and to expand the product base.

Prior to founding Airwave Networks, Bill Rinard was president of APTI Wireless Inc, a company developing advanced network technologies for both the Defense and Commercial Industries. Operating just over four years, the company achieved significant growth such that BAE Systems acquired the company. Before starting this company, Bill was a Business Area Director for three large defense companies. All three positions required the creation of a new business area including business development, program management and hiring a new engineering team.

Bill Rinard received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah in 1978. He also received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Communications from West Virginia University. He has also taken over two years of graduate coursework in communications, networks and program management. In his early days as an electrical engineer, Bill designed a number of digital signal processing systems. He currently holds two patents in this area.

Carmen Benitez - President

As co-founder of Airwave Networks in 2001, Carmen developed and worked towards operating efficiency and best in class customer service objectives. She worked, along with the other founders, to establish the Airwave Call Center, Operating Processes and the light infrastructure needed to maintain efficient operations. 

Prior to founding Airwave Networks, Carmen Benitez was Director of Airborne Systems for E-Systems Inc. As Director in this large defense company, Carmen was responsible for Program Management and Engineering for a $130 million development program. She managed customer relations, costs, RF/Electrical/Mechanical/Software design and manufacturing of production units for this network based system. While employed at E-Systems, she was awarded both Technical Employee of the Year and Administrative Employee of the Year in separate years.

Carmen Benitez received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Alabama in 1982. She was a member of Eta Kappa Nu honor society.

Scott Creque - CTO
Scott Creque is a founding member of Airwave Networks where he has served as the Chief Technical Officer since the company’s inception. His role in the company involves the assessment, development, and implementation of new strategic technologies for network systems and products focused at the student housing market. One of his key achievements is the development of an innovative Bandwidth Management Solution for the Student Housing Industry. He has also developed the property messaging management system.

Prior to Airwave Networks, Mr. Creque worked at APTI Wireless Inc. where he developed custom software solutions for high performance network systems. The company and it’s products were later purchased by BAE Systems. Previously, Mr. Creque worked at Raytheon developing highly reliable software solutions for government intelligence systems.

Mr. Creque received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with specializations in Communications and Microprocessors.

John Baloga - CIO
 As VP Strategic Planning and Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Baloga was instrumental in initiating Airwave Networks’ business operations and expanding Airwave Networks to a national operation. Mr. Baloga’s present responsibilities include the strategic planning for business development and overseeing the launch of operations to accommodate community-based telecommunications and broadband services programs for student housing applications.

He has negotiated the terms for, and overseen the deployment of voice, data, and video systems and services to support a variety of wholesale institutional and multi-dwelling unit applications throughout the United States. He has extensive knowledge of the issues and opportunities which broadband revolution has presented for multi-tenant property owners and managers. Mr. Baloga has worked extensively with services providers and vendors, and he is skilled in negotiating business terms for a wide variety of voice, data and video products and services. He is familiar with both wired and wireless technologies, as well as state and federal telecommunications legislation and requirements as they pertain to multi-tenant amenity and resale programs.

Mr. Baloga joined the employ of Airwave Networks in April, 2004, bringing 12 years of experience in real estate and telecommunications. Before Airwave Networks, Mr. Baloga served as the Director of Technology and Communications, at GMH Associates, Inc., where he was responsible for the design, implementation and operation of systems and services to support student and military housing technology initiatives.

Education:
Mr. Baloga holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Baloga enjoys raising three wonderful children, sailing, diving, coaching football an once in a while,… a good motorcycle.

Harold Edwards - VP R&D
Mr. Edwards joined Airwave Networks in June of 2008 as the Vice President of Research and Development. His career includes nearly 30 years of experience in research, development, and management of advanced communications and networking technologies for both military and commercial applications. His role at Airwave Networks encompasses the design, installation, and maintenance of high performance networks for Digital CATV and Internet access. Additionally, Mr. Edwards is responsible for expanding and improving the Airwave Networks Product Line while keeping an eye on new technologies and trends.

Prior to joining Airwave Networks, Mr. Edwards was a Senior Principal Systems Engineer at BAE Systems, Inc. In this role, he provided leadership in the development of advanced technologies with an emphasis on radio communications and networks. His primary customer was DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). He was the lead engineer on a variety of research efforts focusing on reliable, high-performance networks for military and commercial sectors. Over the course of his career, his research focus areas have included communication networks for mobile robots and unattended sensors, software configurable airborne communications nodes, ultra-reliable wireless voice networks, and advanced radio-frequency signal processing systems.

Mr. Edwards received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Virginia in 1981. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
